American Craft 2007 Re-Launch Preview Site

In 2007 American Craft Magazine re-launched their 60+ year old publication with a new design and editorial direction. We were asked to create a special one-off web site which would promote the magazine, showcase the premiere re-launch issue and make it easy for new readers to subscribe.

American Craft suggested that we just find a quick and easy way to put up the Table of Contents and Editor’s Letter online, but we were afraid that it wouldn’t generate enough buzz to properly augment the magazine’s online promotion efforts. We decided to take it a step further, and built a website which emphasized the magazine as ‘crafted’ object.

On the site, a stop-motion movie (actually a series of images loaded sequentially in the browser) shows a reader flipping through the re-launch issue. The user can navigate back and forth through the magazine, with key articles singled out for online reading.

It was a pleasure to make. Shortly thereafter, we completed and launched the official site, which you can read about here.
